Cosmelan Depigmenting System

What is a Cosmelan Peel?

Cosmelan® depigmentation treatment at Top Skin Solutions is a “Power-Level” skin rejuvenation treatment for particularly stubborn and dense pigmentation. Cosmelan’s synergistic ingredients work very quickly, resulting in a fast, effective blending and elimination of undesirable pigment. Cosmelan regulates the melanin activity, causing the pigment-producing cells to slow down their over-production and function in a more uniform way.

How does it work?

The Cosmelan peel is a four-stage treatment procedure. The first step, which is an intense depigmentation treatment, is performed in the clinic and the other steps can be done at home. At Top Skin Solutions, we will first clean your face and then gently apply the mask on it. We will provide you with an after-treatment kit and instruct you how remove the peel at home, when it is the time. You should use a gentle cleanser and plenty of water to remove the mask completely and then apply the creams suggested in the protocol.

What are the content/ingredients of Cosmelan peel?

The peel is made of azelaic acid, retinoic acid, kojic acid, phytic acid, ascorbic acid, and arbutin.

Who Benefits From Cosmelan Peels The Most?

Cosmelan peels are most beneficial for people with stubborn and resistant pigmentation that doesn’t respond to other treatments.

Specifically, it can help individuals with:

  • Genetic traits that lead to the excessive production of melanin in the skin
  • A history of melasma and sun exposure
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)
  • Age spots
  • Skin discolouration on the chest, back, and neck
  • Prominent acne scarring
  • Blemishes
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Dark spots
  • Discoloration from various laser treatments

Note that if you have pregnancy-induced pigmentation, you must wait until you finish breastfeeding before starting treatment. Peels are unsuitable for nursing or pregnant women.

Recovery And Results

After your Cosmelan peel, you’ll have some redness, swelling, peeling, and slight irritation (like a sunburn) for about two weeks.

This is all completely normal, and part of the recovery process. You will need to refrain from wearing makeup for 7-10 days following treatment.

After two weeks, your skin will have shed the sun damage, discoloration, and will typically stop “peeling”. Maximum results are visible at about 4 to 5 weeks, and we will assess if a touchup peel is needed.  Strict adherence to the prescribed skincare treatment throughout is crucial to obtain good results.

Are Cosmelan results permanent?

The results of Cosmelan Depigmenting Peel can last a long time, but they`re not always permanent. Maintenance treatments and proper skincare afterward can help prolong the results. However, factors like sun exposure and hormonal changes can affect pigmentation over time.

Is laser or Cosmelan peel better for pigmentation?

The choice between laser treatment and Cosmelan for pigmentation depends on various factors including the type and severity of pigmentation, skin type, and individual preferences. Laser treatments can be more targeted and offer quicker results for certain types of pigmentation, while Cosmelan is a gradual process but can be effective for a broader range of pigmentation issues and skin types.

What should I not do before and after Cosmelan?

Before Cosmelan treatment, it`s important to avoid any other facial treatments like waxing, threading, or chemical peels, as well as sun exposure and tanning beds to reduce the risk of skin irritation or complications. After the treatment, avoid sun exposure as much as possible and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen regularly to protect your skin. Additionally, refrain from using harsh skincare products or treatments that could irritate your skin while it`s healing. It`s best to follow strictly the specific instructions you will be provided with pre and post-treatment care.
